The artist

A songwriter's songwriter

"Hearing Edmonson makes it virtually impossible to do anything but stop and listen." — NPR

A Texas native, Kat Edmonson spent years on Austin's club circuit before releasing her debut album, Take to the Sky, in 2009. Raised on the music and film of the early-to-mid twentieth century, she writes original songs that The New York Times calls "intuitive about melody and handy with a turn of phrase," and brings her own arrangements to classic material.

Her 2020 album Dreamers Do debuted at #1 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Albums chart. Holiday Swingin'! A Kat Edmonson Christmas Vol. 1 (2021) was named one of The New York Times' "13 Albums That Revisit (and Redefine!) Holiday Classics," and her seventh studio album, Have Your Merry Christmas With Me, arrives November 6, 2026.

She has appeared on Austin City Limits, NPR's Tiny Desk, A Prairie Home Companion, The Tonight Show and The Late Show, and has toured with Lyle Lovett, Chris Isaak, Gary Clark Jr., Michael Kiwanuka, Nick Lowe and Shawn Colvin. She sang "Mountain Greenery" as a 1930s jazz singer in Woody Allen's Café Society, and made her theatrical debut in 2022 in Taylor Mac and Matt Ray's jazz opera The Hang, a New York Times Critic's Pick.

"Her lasting contribution might very well be her songs."JAZZIZ
